We have recently spoken about the problems we face when networking but I think the experience I had a couple of weeks ago was one of the worse I have come across.
Having had a chat with a very good connection I mentioned I was looking to speak to accountants and he pointed out a gentleman across the room and we should go over and he would introduce me. Great I thought!
Unfortunately not, I was offered a very limp handshake and then the gentleman turned his back on me despite being told I wanted to speak to accountants. You could say it was very rude but it was also a mistake by the accountant as I had to advise a client this week on what my opinion was on that company. When I retold the story my client's opinion changed and not for the better.
So the moral of the story is at least be polite you never know where it may lead and if you want to move on it is so easy to make an excuse to speak to someone else.
